Latvia is governed by a coalition of the national-conservative United List (AS) multiparty alliance, centre-right New Unity (JV) multiparty alliance, the National Alliance (NA) and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) multiparty alliance under prime minister Andris Kulbergs (AS), in office since 28 May 2026. He replaced Evika Siliņa (JV), who resigned on 14 May after the Progressives (PRO) pulled out of her JV–ZZS–PRO government over its handling of stray Ukrainian drones in Latvian airspace. JV topped the 2022 election with 18.9% and 26 of 100 seats.
Partija “VIENOTĪBA”, New Unity (JV)’s largest constituent party, is a member of the European People’s Party and sits in the EPP group. The National Alliance (NA) and the United List (AS) multiparty alliance MEPs sit with the national-conservative European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), and right-wing Latvia First’s (LPV) MEP with Patriots for Europe (PfE). The Progressives (PRO) sit in Greens/EFA, For Latvia’s Development (LA) in the liberal Renew Europe, and Harmony Centre (SC) with the centre-left Socialists & Democrats (S&D). ZZS has no MEP; its largest component, the Latvian Farmers’ Union, sits with liberal and centrist parties in PACE, Council of Europe, and CLaRA.
Fourteen lists were admitted, carrying 1,434 candidates across five constituencies, with Rīga (including votes cast abroad) electing 38 MPs. For Stability! (ST!) won 11 seats in 2022 before splintering to four, and Harmony Centre (SC) is trying to return after being shut out of the Saeima in 2022. Rising Sun for Latvia (ASL) is contesting a Saeima election for the first time.
